Happy 6 Month Birthday and New Pictures!

Joshua's 6 month birthday was this past Saturday. I was happy that I had a LOT going on that day and was able to get through it without too much thinking.

It has been frustrating that I don't have new pictures of Joshua to post on these birthdays. I should be able to make a bulleted list of all the new things he is doing and show pictures of how much he has grown. But, that is just something I can't do.

However, my sister surprised me on Memorial Day with a bunch of pictures I have not yet seen! She got a new phone after Joshua passed away and she still had the old sims card from her old phone. She finally was able to get them off and gave them to me as a surprise!!

They were all taken while we were in Boise for Christmas. It felt good to have some new pictures of my little hero.
I love this picture because this is how he would sleep/sit in his bouncer before his surgery.  He started putting his head up like that even in the hospital right after he was born! I didn't really have very many good pictures of this, so this one is truly priceless.  I also love his little hands...almost like he is saying a prayer.

This one I love because it actually shows more Christmas decorations, showing it was Christmas time!  Also, he did most of his sleeping on the floor like this before his surgery.

How Not to Say the Wrong Thing

Everyone who has gone through a difficult time has experienced that awkward moment when someone says the wrong thing.  In fact, now that I have been through something hard (and still am), I wonder to myself how many times I have been that person saying the wrong thing.

I have tried to figure out something that I could post about to help others know what to say.  Honestly, it is very difficult to have generic rules that work in every situation. Some people want to talk...others don't.  What would be the right thing to say to one person could very well be the wrong thing for another person.

However, one of my friends and fellow angel mom shared this article from the LA Times and I thought this was a perfect place to start.  It is a great mindset to have when someone you know is going through a difficult time. I hope you enjoy this article and that it helps you as much as it helped me.

Do you have any other suggestions on how to not say the wrong thing?  What have been your experiences with this, either being the person trying to help or the person needing words of encouragement?

First trial run alone...

Well, today is my first trial run being alone since Joshua passed.  My mom left this morning and Tim went to work for a few hours, leaving me home alone with Logan boy.  To be honest, I am doing a little better than I thought I would, but not great.  I find myself thinking way too much...too much about Joshua and what could have been. Today, I am really feeling the ache in my heart...which I have been able to handle pretty well until today.

We put up our family pictures yesterday.  I LOVE how it looks, but I couldn't help but think about how there won't be any more family pictures with our whole family...there will always be someone missing.  We printed some pictures out of Joshua to hang up on the wall as a little memory wall and I find myself looking at them A LOT.  I look at the picture and close my eyes and remember the moment that picture was taken.  I can close my eyes and see his expression and remember kissing his cheeks.  I hope those memories don't fade too quickly.

Our family picture wall put up yesterday.  I love being able to look up at my boys.
Thanks to my wonderful sister-in-law, we have this wonderful frame with the scripture we use to help us through all of Joshua's life (and even now).  I love that I can switch out the pictures every so often so we are looking at different ones all the time.
I am also having a hard time today because Tim and I didn't get any videos of Joshua.  Not really sure how that happened, but it is the one thing I regret.  Fortunately, my parents have one short video of him when he was first born, which is such a miracle.  I try hard not to dwell too much on what could have been with the videos.  It is just SO frustrating to not be able to do anything about it.  I have decided to start working on my book I want to make about Joshua and hopefully that will help me not be so frustrated.

Anyway, I am allowing myself to have a little bit of a hard time today...but I try hard not to stay in that too long.  The last thing I need is to spiral down into depression.  Everyone, just give your kids an extra hug and kiss today...and maybe shoot a quick video for me.

Joshua Kent Ipson was born December 1, 2012 with a very complicated combination of congenital heart defects. After 2 1/2 months of fighting for his life, he passed away on February 13, 2013. We invite you to share our experiences as we grieve his loss, rejoice in God's plan, & keep Joshua's message of hope alive.
